Support and Welfare for international students

The personal support offered to international students forms an important part of our commitment to their education with the college.
Students have a personal guidance tutor who is a point of contact when there are any questions which arise. They see their tutor for one hour each week, then tutor will also give them guidance and help with every stage of their university application.

The college has a careers officer who will give you all the information you may need about universities and other plans for when you progress at the end of your course

You may discuss confidential personal issues at any time with a student support counsellor. 
The international office is available to help with host family, visa issues, travel arrangements and any other day to day needs during your study time at College.

On arrival, the College will arrange to meet students at the airport and take them directly to their host family. 
Academic Support
The first week is an introductory week when students have an interview with a guidance tutor to help with final subject decisions and an English language assessment. The students will then see their personal guidance tutor for one hour each week throughout the term 
English language support
All students are tested on arrival
There will be a programme of English language classes and other activities to help students settle in before classes
English classes will be from 9.00 am to 12.30
Social Activities
There will be visits to Brighton and Worthing; we also have other social activities for students.There is an International Welcome Party for students and their host families.
Trips to local places of interest are arranged throughout the year.
Personal Support
The International Student Co-ordinator is available to help with any questions or problems.
We have full time personal and confidential counselling available for all students

A student's experience

My name is Colby Wong, a student from Hong Kong, after my HCEE exams I am studying A levels in Worthing College. I am doing Maths with mechanics, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths. The college is compact, which is very convenient when travelling from room to room and it has a good learning environment.  It is also close to large cities such as Portsmouth and Brighton so you can go somewhere to relax.

At the college the teaching methods are absolutely fantastic when compared to Hong Kong.  They do more understanding and logical thinking which captivates me a lot, also studying here is not as stressful as Hong Kong as you can resit exams if you think you did not do so well.

Besides that, staying with a host family is one of the great things, as we can learn more about English culture which you wouldn’t experience in either Hong Kong

College Plus is about more than courses and qualifications – it is also about joining in a range of additional activities to have fun, to express yourself, to help you develop teamwork skills, to keep fit, and to contribute to life at college. That’s why we call it

Here are just some of the many ways you can get more out of Worthing College.

Music                                                                                      What’s your instrument? Do you sing? Do you want to make music? We have a choir and Big Band and Rock groups play at local venues during the year. You can join in during the College day and your efforts will be recorded and rewarded through the College+ network.  

Drama Performing Arts and Dance
Do you enjoy drama, dance or music?  Then this is the place to be!  Our Performing Arts Team offers you an excellent chance to participate.  You can choose from drama productions, musical and dance productions involving a wide range of students. It is a great opportunity to meet new friends and take part in a fun activity.


Student Voice
We want to involve you in the way the college is run.  ‘Student Voice’ is your opportunity to make your voice heard about things that matter to us all.  Students also help out at public events such as Open Days, Concerts and Awards Evenings, fund raising and help produce a college magazine.

There are a variety of clubs and groups at college which give students opportunities to make new friends or take up new interests.  These normally include clubs such as Poker Club, Film Club, Book Group, Chess Club, and Christian Union. If you want to start your own group, we might be able to help.

Voluntary Activities Worthing College students have lots of opportunities to help out in the community, from dog walking, to working in local schools or charity shops, to helping at Worthing Hospital. We even offer you the opportunity to make a blood donation at college! These are excellent ways to explore career options, as well as making a difference in someone else’s life.  

Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Employers and universities often want you to demonstrate that you have acquired practical skills, such as IT, Communications, Problem solving, Planning and Teamwork. You will get opportunities to develop these skills through schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh Awards
All students are expected to get involved in some way in College+ activities such as those above. Points are awarded to reflect the effort and commitment to college life, and prizes given to those who make significant contributions
